Foundations & The Nomadic Journey (2001 – 2022)

This era covers the “Great Migration” and the two decades of building a community without a permanent roof.

  • The First Seeds: In the early 2000s, Syro-Malabar families from Kerala settled in Bristol, Bath, and Weston-super-Mare. Gathering in borrowed Roman Catholic churches, the community sought to preserve their ancient East Syrian liturgical traditions.
  • A Structured Mission: What began as a Sunday congregation evolved into a formal Mission under the Syro-Malabar Eparchy of Great Britain.
  • Nurturing the Diaspora: This period saw the birth of our Catechism (Sunday School) and pious associations like SMYM (Youth)Mathrujyothi (Mothers), and Pithruvedhi (Fathers), which provided spiritual and social anchors for the growing diaspora.

The Eden Grove Milestone (2023 – 2026)

This chapter marks the transformative leadership of Rev. Fr. Paul Olickal and the realization of the “Dream Project.”

  • The Historic Purchase: Under Fr. Olickal’s visionary leadership, the community transitioned from its “nomadic” phase to homeowners, successfully acquiring the Eden Grove Church property.
  • Consecration (September 2024): A landmark for the Eparchy in the UK, the church was consecrated as our permanent sanctuary—the first fully owned Syro-Malabar church in Bristol.
  • Renovation & Modernization: The building was meticulously renovated to blend the majestic beauty of the Syro-Malabar rite with the site’s local historical charm, creating a true spiritual home.

Today, Tomorrow & Beyond

This category focuses on our current identity and the path forward under our new leadership.

  • A Beacon of Faith: St. Thomas Church now stands as a fully established spiritual hub in South West England, serving hundreds of families with daily Qurbana, Adoration, and vibrant festivals like Dukhrana.
  • A Home Away from Home: We remain committed to our legacy as a “home away from home” for the Malayali Catholic community, fostering a space where faith and culture thrive together.
  • The Next Generation: Under our new Vicar, Fr. Christo Neriamparambil, we look toward our 25th anniversary with a renewed mission to pass the flame of faith to our youth and expand our service to the wider community.
